Steve McCurry Untold: The Stories Behind the Photographs is a photography book that explores the stories, experiences and working process behind some of Steve McCurry’s most significant photographs. Drawing on his personal archive, the book follows 14 major assignments from their first publication through to their lasting impact, revealing the notes, images and ephemera behind the finished photographs.
With more than 100 full-colour photographs and newly commissioned essays, the book spans three decades of McCurry’s career and includes his work in India, Tibet, Afghanistan, Yemen, Kuwait and elsewhere. The assignments cover subjects including rail travel in India, the Tibetan people, the monsoon, September 11 and the environmental effects of the Gulf War. Together, the photographs and archival material offer an inside view of the ideas, circumstances and adventures behind McCurry’s celebrated work.
