Description
Chasers by Lorenzo Carcaterra is the sequel to his novel Apaches, following a group of controversial, adrenaline-driven former NYPD officers known as the Apaches. Set in 1985 New York City, the story begins with a shocking machine-gun attack at a Manhattan restaurant that leaves innocent bystanders dead, spurring the surviving Apaches to investigate a Colombian drug cartel responsible for flooding the city with cocaine. The team—led by veterans Boomer, Dead-Eye, and Reverend Jim—is joined by three new members: Ash, a Hispanic arson-specialist cop recovering from injury; Quincy, an HIV-positive forensic expert; and Buttercup, a highly trained retired police dog. Together, they operate outside conventional law enforcement as “Chasers,” navigating multiple intersecting cases that escalate into an explosive street war.
The Apaches confront a formidable cast of adversaries, including Quinones, a deadly assassin; the Boiler Man, a ruthless and cunning killer; Angel, a former priest turned cartel kingpin; and the G-Men, a network of dealers protecting their cocaine empire at all costs. Carcaterra’s high-octane narrative combines relentless action, detailed crime plotting, and vivid characterisation, creating a gripping depiction of urban crime, loyalty, and survival in a city on the edge.
