Description
The Shack by William Paul Young is a Christian novel about Mackenzie Allen Philips, whose youngest daughter, Missy, disappears during a family holiday. Evidence suggesting that she has been murdered is found in an abandoned shack in the Oregon wilderness, leaving Mack devastated and struggling with his faith.
Four years later, while still consumed by what the novel calls his “Great Sadness”, Mack receives a mysterious note apparently from God, inviting him to return to the shack. Despite his doubts, he goes, and what happens there forces him to confront his grief, his anger and his understanding of God. The novel explores questions of faith, suffering, forgiveness and where God can be found in the midst of terrible pain.
A good choice for readers who enjoy Christian fiction, stories about faith and grief, and novels that explore difficult questions about God, suffering and forgiveness.
