Description

Special Forces “Jam Stealer” by Peet Coetzee is a military memoir recounting Pote Coetzee’s thirty-three years of service in the South African military, beginning in 1947 and eventually leading to service with the Recces. He grew up in a military environment in the days of Saracen and Panhard armoured vehicles, flat tin helmets and traditional military service.

Told in his own words, the memoir follows the paths Coetzee took and the experiences he had during his military career, including his contribution to the war effort. He focuses particularly on the men working behind the scenes — the “Back Room Boys” whose efforts were essential to military operations but often received little recognition or glory.

A good choice for readers interested in South African military history, military memoirs, Special Forces and first-hand accounts of the people who served behind the scenes.
