Description
Princess Academy by Shannon Hale is a middle-grade fantasy novel and the first book in the Princess Academy series. Set in the remote mountain village of Mount Eskel, the story follows Miri, a determined girl whose quiet life is disrupted when it is revealed that the next princess must come from her village, leading to the establishment of a training academy for all eligible girls.
As the girls are taught etiquette, language and courtly behaviour, Miri finds herself caught between ambition, loyalty and her love for her home and family. Competition intensifies as the academy prepares them for selection, but a greater danger soon threatens their community, forcing Miri to make difficult choices that test her courage and sense of identity.
Blending coming-of-age themes with fantasy and social tension, the novel explores belonging, self-worth and community responsibility. It is ideal for readers who enjoy character-driven fantasy stories with strong emotional depth and meaningful life lessons.
