Description
The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman is the third and final novel in the acclaimed His Dark Materials trilogy. Lyra lies unconscious under the care of her mother, Mrs Coulter, while Lord Asriel gathers forces for a rebellion against the Authority. Meanwhile, Will Parry, carrying the powerful Subtle Knife, sets out to find Lyra. Their paths eventually bring them together again as the fate of multiple worlds hangs in the balance.
Lyra and Will face their most dangerous task yet: entering the Land of the Dead, a place from which no living person has ever returned. Their journey becomes part of a much larger struggle involving angels, witches, the Authority, Dust and the forces gathering for a final war. Alongside its adventure and fantasy elements, the novel explores free will, faith, knowledge, love and the nature of consciousness. The Amber Spyglass was first published in 2000 and won the Whitbread Book of the Year award, making it the first children’s novel to receive the prize.
