Description
Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert is a memoir about rebuilding a life after divorce and a profound midlife crisis. Despite having what appeared to be a successful, fulfilling life, Gilbert found herself feeling deeply unhappy and empty. She eventually decided to leave her old life behind and spend a year travelling, dividing her time between three countries, each representing a different stage in her search for balance and meaning.
The memoir is divided into 108 short chapters, reflecting the 108 beads of a japa mala, or Eastern prayer beads. Gilbert’s journey combines travel, food, spirituality and personal reflection as she sets out to understand herself and work out what she wants from the next chapter of her life.
