Description
Dinosaur Summer by Greg Bear, illustrated by Tony DiTerlizzi, is a science fiction adventure set in an alternate mid-twentieth century where dinosaurs from a hidden plateau in South America are known to exist. When the once-famous Lothar Gluck dinosaur circus collapses, a small expedition decides to attempt the extraordinary task of returning the remaining prehistoric animals to their original home on the isolated plateau of El Grande in Venezuela. Photojournalist Anthony Belzoni is assigned to document the journey, bringing along his son Peter, who soon finds himself part of a risky expedition involving filmmakers, circus trainers, and a convoy transporting massive creatures across continents, rivers, jungles, and mountains. As the group struggles to move the dinosaurs through difficult terrain and political unrest, danger grows from both human threats and the unpredictable behaviour of the animals themselves, including a powerful predatory raptor named Dagger.
Inspired by the premise of The Lost World, the novel blends speculative science, prehistoric adventure, and expedition storytelling while exploring humanity’s fascination with lost worlds and extinct creatures.
