Description
Asmodeus: A Forkful of Tales from Devil’s Peak by Alex D’Angelo is a humorous fantasy collection that reimagines the history and folklore of the Cape through the misadventures of an ambitious young devil.
When the Devil decides that the growing settlement at the Cape of Good Hope requires its own regional branch of Hell, he sends the eager but inexperienced demon Asmodeus to establish operations. Armed with plenty of wicked schemes and the worst of intentions, Asmodeus soon discovers that Cape sinners are far more cunning, resourceful, and unpredictable than he anticipated.
Drawing on local history, folklore, and satire, the book presents a series of comic tales in which the forces of evil repeatedly find themselves outwitted by the colourful characters of the Cape. Enhanced by illustrations from Tony Grogan, the collection combines fantasy, historical humour, and South African flavour in an entertaining and imaginative read.
