Description
Step by Step by June Francis is the first novel in the Victoria Crescent Sagas, set in early twentieth-century Chester.
The story follows childhood friends Hannah Kirk and Alice Moran as their lives are torn apart by tragedy, violence and family conflict. After Alice’s mother dies and her own home life becomes increasingly dangerous, she is forced to flee, while Hannah remains behind to care for her injured mother and cope with growing instability within her own household. As circumstances drive the friends apart, misunderstandings, hardship and mistrust threaten to permanently sever their bond.
Emotional and character-driven, the novel explores themes of friendship, loyalty, family trauma and resilience in a working-class historical setting.
