The Pickwick Papers by Charles Dickens is a humorous and satirical novel that follows the adventures of Samuel Pickwick and his eccentric companions in 19th-century England.
It is widely regarded as the most famous of all pre-Victorian novels. Originally serialized in monthly instalments, sales reached 40 000 copies each month by the fifteenth number. In the almost 160 years since the book’s first publication, the characters of Mr Pickwick, Sam Weller and the whole Pickwickian crew and their adventures have entered the consciousness of all who love English literature in general and the works of Dickens in particular.
