The Austere Academy is the fifth book in A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. The story follows the Baudelaire orphans—Violet, Klaus, and Sunny—as they endure yet another chapter in their relentlessly unfortunate lives. This time, they find themselves at a boarding school that proves to be just as grim as every other place they’ve been.
Instead of the typical school experience filled with fun and friends, the Baudelaires are faced with a series of unfortunate events: snapping crabs, an oppressive and authoritarian environment, a dismal curriculum (including comprehensive exams and the dreaded metric system), and a violin recital. As always, Count Olaf is hot on their heels, and the children must navigate a school filled with strict punishments and strange occurrences to avoid falling deeper into his clutches.
