Making Money is the 36th book in Terry Pratchett’s iconic Discworld series — and the hilarious sequel to Going Postal. Once again, we follow the irrepressible Moist von Lipwig, a former con artist turned unlikely civil servant, as he’s “persuaded” by the ever-watchful Lord Vetinari to take on a new job: reviving Ankh-Morpork’s failing Royal Mint and introducing the city’s first paper currency.
As always, Pratchett delivers his signature blend of sharp satire, absurd comedy, and surprisingly astute social commentary. Moist finds himself dealing with eccentric bank managers, crossbow-wielding old ladies, a Mint director who enjoys licking faces, and a vampire clerk with a thirst for good business practices. But beyond the jokes and chaotic characters lies a clever commentary on economics, trust, and the strange things we collectively agree give money its value.
Making Money can be read as a standalone, but you’ll enjoy it even more if you’ve met Moist in Going Postal first. Either way, it’s witty, weird, and wonderfully Discworld.
